It is increasingly difficult to distinguish between human hair and synthetic hair even for experts, the wig industry has worked on it for decades. And with the results, you too can be seen without worry. Fits hair colour and hair structure, you will not see at first or at second glance that the hair extension or hair replacement are not your own hair.
How long does a hairpiece last?
This depends in addition to the care and the intensity of the stress, especially on the length of the hairpiece. While they can wear short hairpieces, hair nests, bun and short ponytails, even with daily use for many months, long hairpieces show obvious wear after a few weeks. Typical is the gradual matting of the lengths and tips, which is unavoidable regardless of the material, whether human hair or synthetic. The problem comes from the constant friction on the shoulders and back, which makes the surface of the hair roughened and brittle. The longer the hair, the more engraving this effect, which is naturally enhanced by wearing the wig during dance and sports.
How to extend the service life?
In order to compensate for the protection of the natural hair surfaces by fats from the hair roots and counteract this effect at least for a certain time, special care products, shampoo and balms have also been developed for wigs and hairpieces made of synthetic hair.
If you don’t have such a care product at hand or it is too costly, a simple home remedy has proven itself for synthetic hair products – very normal fabric softener. Leave your hairpiece or rough, matted areas to soften slightly in a lukewarm water bath under the addition of fabric softener. After drying in the air, the rough areas are softer and more manageable. For combing – just like you would comb your own long and tangled hair from the tips upwards, do not use a brush but a coarse prong anti-static comb. At some point, the wear and tear is sure to be so serious that you will not get around a new hairpiece.
Care Guide 1 – What do I need to care for:
What you need: A bowl of lukewarm water and a little shampoo optimised for wigs and hairpieces (or pH neutral shampoo or baby shampoo). Normal shampoos are usually matched to the hair and scalp and help to maintain the shine of your hair with moisturising agents. Especially if you wear the hair replacement frequently, you should use special care products. These are designed to give your hairpiece or wig back the necessary care ingredients that it does not receive from the scalp. This helps the hairpiece not become dull or brittle.
Care instructions 2 – Washing instructions:
Add a little bit of shampoo to lukewarm water and leave the wig in it for about 10 minutes (never rub the hairpiece). Then carefully remove the remnants of sprays and strengtheners. Then rinse the hairpiece in a bowl of clean water.
Care Instructions 3 – Drying:
Wet hairpieces and wigs should never be combed or blow dried. First, gently dab the hairpiece with a towel (do not rub). ). Here you can hang it on the attachment – the butterfly clip about – or lay it on a second cloth to air dry. Such a hairpiece should not dry on the heater. After the hairpiece is dry, you can style it with a weat-toothed comb, or loosen it with your hands.
